Kite surfing in the Quirimbas

Kayak Quirimbas Kite Surfing

The one thing we have on tap during May to August is WIND and it generally blows and blows bringing a glint to any kite surfers eye! If the sound of having a 12 meter fully equipped traditional Arab dhow and experienced skipper and crew at your disposal to Kite Surfing, island hop and explore the Quirimbas appeals to you then read on…

The trade winds blow on the east coast of Africa and change direction twice a year. The wind, known locally as the Kusi, blows from the South and the Kaskasi from the North.

The Kusi winds generally blow from April to August and can range from 15 to 30 knots with the average around 20 knots. There are often a good number of days with winds over 20 knots, and this is considered to be the best time to kite surf in the Quirimbas Archipelago.

You need to bring all of your own kiting gear as none is available in the Quirimbas kites (freestyle and wave board) We also recommend reef shoes and a short wet suit during the winter months (June to August) when the temperature of the water drops to about 24° C. The air temperature is around 28° C throughout the year.

All kite surfing safaris in the Quirimbas are tailor made to your exact needs. This is an emerging kiting destination in some of the most radical island and marine scenery in Africa.

We will supply all camping and catering equipment, experienced crew, and a healthy sense of adventure. Kiting mobile safaris need to be tailor made to your exact wishes.
