The rooms, the furniture, the decoration and the kind of living at Ibo Island Lodge; it transported us to the past times where the African culture cross with arab mystery and the Lusitanian architecture. Ibo lodge is an example of the Mozambique historic preservation and the Ibo Island looks for the attention of the Mozambican authorities , UNESCO, and whom here has the historic responsibilities. A quiet and positive atmosphere with excellent service and brilliant seafood. The trip to the sand bank was an extraordinary experience and the twenty fishermen that worked from the bank were happy to have a successful day – so had we. And we concluded that day with a history tour and some shopping. We may not have been the easiest bunch to accommodate, taking into account our range of ages – from a 10 year old to an 80-plus year old couple. However, you really went beyond the call of duty to make our stay as comfortable as you could for all of us! Your staff are wonderful and I had the best bird watching trip ever, with Dollar. We identified the call of the bird and then stalked it. What fun! Our snorkelling with Harris and Dollar was pure magic. Your larger Dhow is a real majestic boat to travel on. The helmsman is the most unflappable individual who calmly directed the frantic activity to unfurl the sails! We loved watching him and voted him a master yachtsman. The kayaking trip generated great competition and turned out to be a race back home! Lots of talk about who cheated or didn’t row fast enough !! Dollar and Harris made our holiday so memorable with their knowledge, expertise and willingness to adjust the various activities to suit everyone’s specific needs. Nothing was too much trouble. Nacir was so willing to help with our requests for fixing a shoe, finding Ibocoffee to take home, that he made some good tips on the side! Your young chefs and kitchen staff truly wowed us with what they produced and our Christmas meal was truly delicious. You were ever present and available to make the adjustments we requested with willingness and the ability to be flexible. We probably weren’t always aware of the McGuiver-like manoeuvres you may have had to implement in order to satisfy our many requests! Say thank you to Glynis for her good company. Thank you. I have trodden here humbley, the dawn and dusk both mystical the pace of life here reinstalls belief in human nature The sand bank is a world apart , magnifying the beauty of the ocean in one small and shifting fragile place Such beauty is what happens here in Ibo. Never lose what is here now ! Never let the magic at Ibo escape from the bottle I know when I boarded the air link flight at Johannesburg . The magic was beginning but arriving at Ibo and all that I have seen smelt , touched heard here as have been beyond a dream . I have visited many beautiful places and only a few have stolen my heart. A magical place - we'll be sending people here whenever we get the chance (and hope we don't bore everyone waxing lyrical beforehand!) Thank you! Whilst lazing by the pool, or sipping an expertly mixed cocktail or discussing the day's activities with the ever efficient Dollar it has been difficult to put my finger on why this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. To cut a long story short, it immediately entered my top 3 on arrival, only to move rapidly up the podium as we enjoyed the comfort and subtlety of the decor and the phenomenally warm and delightful hospitality of all the team. Undeniably a lost paradise in the Indian ocean. I feel we have been steeped in Ibo's history and culture and guilty pleasure of staying in this beautiful colonial lodge filled with staff who have surpassed the word service, they have provided us a haven of personality, generosity and damn good food and wine! From collecting fine porcelain pieces on the beach, moonlit walks, sunset dhow trips and crab claws. This has been a truly memorable trip. He called to tell me that he and his fiancé, Mariaan, had tied the knot in July. When I asked him where the ceremony took place he said that they had got married on Ibo Island. What a surprise! He said that the Lodge organized everything perfectly and that the chapel was lit up with hundreds of candles – they were over the moon with it all and all you did. So peaceful and yet always something interesting going on. The activities with Dollar were all different, the mangrove kayaking and the sandspit were particularly special. Then there is the great food and just when you thought you couldn’t eat another thing – you are served with ‘death by chocolate’. Thanks to John & Lizanne for being great hosts and escorting to the local at night.
