Teach A Man To FishOn Ibo Island there is just one primary school that works three shifts a day in order to cater to the needs of Ibo's children, as well as adults. In conjunction with our project coordinator - Winnie De Roover and our community school, we have started a pilot Montessori class. Teaching is done in English. It is a language that is foreign to the local children of Ibo, but vital for tourism development. Lessons LearnedThe school aims to be an Eco friendly initiative in which young children are taught to respect Ibo’s natural resources, and the unique Eco-system in which the island is situated. The school has attracted voluntary teaches from all over the world, all hosted by Ibo Island Lodge. The long term goal is to extend the training to identified adult learners, who can then become teachers, benefiting the larger part of Ibo's children. |
