Quirimbas Birding
|
Mozambique is fast becoming the destination to visit for birders. It has extensive unspoilt areas and is unexplored by many. Renewed access to Mozambique after years of isolation by civil war has provided exciting possibilities for birders and the central and southern parts of the country have since the mid-1990s become popular destinations for keen birders.
Ibo sits in a breathtakingly beautiful and unique location surrounded by Indian ocean and coral reefs, the Quirimbas National Park and one of the largest groves of mangrove forests in Africa.
A guided walk is one of the best ways to discover Ibo’s varied flora and fauna and outstanding bird life. Early to mid morning or later in the afternoons is best recommended when it is generally cooler for walking. Walks can be tailor made to suit your specific interests and are arranged with your guide the day before.
Specials that can be seen are: Brown Breasted Barbet, Madagascar Bee-eater, Mangrove Kingfisher, Brown-headed Parrot, Terek Sandpiper, Senegal Lapwing, Grey Plover, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Crab plover, Eleonora’s Falcon and Bat Hawk

However it will give you a good idea of what experiences are available and what birds can be seen.
